Chic Wilson
It is with great sadness that the NEC report the passing of Chic Wilson - former Chairperson of the BBTSA
Tribute by Linda Paterson on behalf of the BBTSA
'It was with great sadness and a heavy heart that I need to tell you of the passing of Chic Wilson on Friday 3rd July 2020.
He was a man of great compassion and wisdom who had a zest for life and an enormous heart. His love of Twirling knew no bounds and his contributions over 50 years helped shape our sport to where it is today. He will be sadly missed by many friends both near and far. My thoughts and love are with all his family'
Our heart felt condolences go out to Moira, Elaine & Moira from all members of the BBTSA
Mike Deeks
In loving memory of Michael John Deeks. Michael sadly passed away on Saturday 14th December surrounded by his family in Gorleston. Michael was one of the most loving and caring people on earth and spent most of his life doing things for other people and fundraising for charities including The Lions Club and for the sport that he absolutely love, Baton Twirling.
Michael was an NEC Board member for many years as well as holding various roles within Region 15. He was the Club Director of Elysian Twirlers and was fondly known as ‘Grandad’ by all their athletes. He would spend hours speaking and reminiscing about the sport, the athletes and the competitions that he had attended, supported and helped at. Michael leaves behind his wife Pearl, his children Elaine, Mark and Craig and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
You will be missed by every person that ever had the pleasure of meeting you as you always made anyone that was in your presence the most important person. Thank you for all you have done for your family, friends and all of your charitable work. Rest in Peace and may you forever remain in our memories.
Lucinda Harding
Lucinda Harding - August 2019 Our hearts are broken by the tragic loss of one of our most beautiful shining stars Lucinda Mary and her baby girl Niamh. As an athlete, Lucinda has been a huge presence within our sport that will be greatly missed in many ways. Her love of baton twirling was evident from her many entertaining performances as an individual and valuable team member, to her amazing support for many athletes from across the country not just her own club.
Dennis Goodwin
It is with great sadness that we report that Dennis Goodwin passed away peacefully on 22nd June 2019 after a short and sudden illness. Dennis loved our sport and made many friends both at home and abroad as a result. Dennis became involved with the BBTSA many years ago through the club Teynham Twirlettes, which he ran with wife Mary. Both were heavily involved in the Region One committee, with Dennis as Treasurer, and also the NEC as PRO. On retiring from the NEC, Dennis was made an Honourary Member of the BBTSA. Dennis will be best remembered as the trophy man, making sure the awards for our National competitions were ready for presentation.
Brenda Jones
It is with deep sadness that the NEC announced the passing of Brenda Jones on 7th January 2019. Brenda was club leader of the Brigadiers from 1976 to 1984, and our National Membership Officer for many years. Brenda worked tirelessly for the BBTSA, working on tabulation for all our National competitions, and was never happier when she could find an error!
Brenda was made an Honourary Member on her retirement from the NEC Board.
We have fond memories of Brenda, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.
Karl Phillips
Our wonderful friend Karl Phillips lost his long-fought battle with a brain tumor on June 7th, 2018
From being a talented solo, 2 baton, team and supreme contact and roll aficionado he then became a well-respected coach.
Karl then turned his knowledge and talents into creating music.
Through his working for the BBC his technical skills in editing grew.
He thought outside the box creating diverse and original pieces, not only for members of the BBTSA but worldwide.
His work graced the International scene with top athletes and coaches requesting his skills. He cared, worked tirelessly in his choices of music and perfection in the cuts.
All this has been shown in the plaudits received from around the globe with his passing.
He was awarded an Honorary membership by the BBTSA. We now have The Karl Phillips Trophy which is awarded at the British Open.
This wonderful, hugely talented, generous, inspiring man will be missed not only for the work he created but for the man he was.
Karl we will hold you forever in our hearts. You will never be more loved and never forgotten.
Audrey O'Neill M.B.E.
